Why You Should Always Strive For Perfection
Welcome new readers! AlleNation is where I share my knowledge, exprience and ideas hoping to deliver the most value to you, do some further reading on the blog and if you like it consider grabbing the feed
I don’t know how big your ego is but mine always tells me I’m one of the most practical human beings I have ever met, we all know practical people and cliches don’t go well together, but let me tell you how you can use cliches and practically apply them to get the best out of yourself.
I’m sure you’ve all heard the saying “always strive for perfection” or “always aim to the top”, I used to hate these until I really got to try them. The points in this post may be applied to many fields in life, but let’s see how striving for perfection can help you develop successful online assets.
Understanding perfection is unattainable
Everyone knows that being perfect at any given time is impossible, no matter how well/hard you try to do something, there will always be a better, faster or easier way to do it. Then why bother striving for perfection you ask?
The XX% realization theory
January 2007 was the month of resolutions. That’s when you tell yourself you want to have 1000 daily blog visitors on average, lose 25 pounds and have enough to pay your student debt.
With all the obstacles and distractions that come along the way, most people actually do not fully realize their resolutions and targets, whether they are short or long term ones, for example: few people will gain 3 pounds, some will lose 13 and a few will realize their 25 pounds goal.
The amount of progress you can make is practically limited, but what can we do to make sure we are squeezing every drop of potential we have?
Strive for perfection, aim to the top
Given the fact perfection is unattainable, and knowing that you are usually able to complete XX% of each one of your goals, aiming for the perfect result, even something that would be considered wild, will always return the best result you could ever get. (Shouldn’t have given diet as an example)
To make this simple - Let’s imagine your niche currently consists of 50 active blogs (you are currently #50), now let’s say your goal was to break into the top 25 in 6 months. You do whatever you do, you face whatever obstacles you may face, and when these 6 months come to an end you reach the 27th spot. 92% of success, which means you’re pretty good with execution.
But let’s assume your goal was to break into the top 5 within 6 months. You do whatever you do, you face whatever obstacles you may face, and when these 6 months come to and you reach the 15th spot. A disappointing 78% success rate.
What the XX% realization theory doesn’t tell you
In the first case, you will be praising yourself for completing 92% of your goal, which means your blog have gone up by 23 spots. In the latter, you will be criticizing yourself for completing only 78% of your goal - going up by 35 spots. Which position would you rather be in?
Always strive for perfection. Always work hard to get the #1 spot, even if you won’t end up getting it, you’d still be among the top.
