JohnCow.com is Up For Sale

Less than a year after kicking off, perhaps as a joke, perhaps as an attempt to piss a Dot Com Mogul, or maybe just a seemingly uncreative way to catch a buck on the Chow wave, JohnCow.com gets listed for sale. Minimum Bid: $25,000.

One thing is sure - What initially stirred some harsh comments and actually seemed to represent the mother of all JohnChow.com copycats turned out to be a perfectly laid, executed plan.

Laughing Last

I’m not going to roll JohnCow.com’s history here, neither do I intend to criticize the principles JohnCow.com was built upon; I remember having a conversation with a well-known blogger, we were having a laugh about the lack of creativity that seemed (and still seems) to hit the blogosphere following John Chow’s rise.

But the cow seems to be laughing last - Many bloggers, including myself with AlleNation, failed to pass the after math test - John Cow Dot Com did.

What is The After Math Test?

I remember when AlleNation was in front, the buzz around this blog was crazy - especially after I paid John Chow to review it (should you?), people were flocking here, and after a while there was a little hush..the buzz was gone, visitors were still coming - but it wasn’t as interesting, at least not for me.

That’s the after math test - when you’re not in the headlines, not in the front, not on John Chow’s/Problogger’s homepage, but on your blog - writing, tweaking, branding, working.

You can never skip the after math test if you want to see real, long-term success, even when you’re not in the buzz anymore, work hard, and you’ll create one yourself. Ask John Cow Dot Com.

You have a nice looking site. I am pleased to hear you are coming back into the scene. My goal is to get 2k a month. I will use any money the site makes and recycle it by buying ads and reviews. Get the site going on its own the best I can, then pay for advertising to make it boom. John Cow is asking 25 to 50k for his blog. That is most people’s 1 year income, if not 2 years. So if he does sell it, it looks like he will be set for a while.

I do like John Chow, but I think he is making a point by posting tons of off topic content. Get popular and you can do whatever. Once the people know you, they will still come.

Hi Wade, thanks for dropping by!

I think there’s a lot to learn from the way John Chow manages his blog, not just how he blogs. Too bad that in today’s reality John Chow has done more harm than benefit to the average blogger - now every average Joe starts a MMO blog thinking 6 months from now he’ll average at least $5,000 dollars.

Cheers,
Allen
