December - 4 Figure Earnings

It’s the time when i have to sum up not only December, but 2006 as well. This post will talk about the happenings in December, and a post in the next few days will talk about 2006, and my goals for 2007.

Realizing the opportunity

Earnings for December

Income:

- Google Adsense: $1,966 ( $279 in November, 704% growth)
- Direct link sales: $30 ($22 in October)
- Paypal (donations): $0 (0$ in November)
- BlogAds: $80 ($35 in November)
- Text-Link-Ads: $20 ($33 in October)
- Website sales: $1400

Total income: $3496

Expenses:

- Domain name purchases: $27 ($8.80 in November)
- Link Purchases: $10

Total expenses: $37

Net profit for December: $3459 ($360 in November, 960% growth!!)

Woah! I look at my income for this month, and i can confidentially say that if i get half of that every month, i can still sit back and say i’m making more than a lot of people in my country. Of course it’s going to take a lot of hard work and dedication to keep with these figures, the site deal brought in $1400 which won’t be coming again anytime soon, but I’d settle for $1900 with Adsense for the first of month of 2007 :)

I’d settle because it’s a huge leap considering anything that I’ve made before, and surely staying on the same level for one month and being able to focus on my other targets even more would benefit me even more.

Website sold & a “new job”

Earlier in December i talked about this deal, i have already listed all the reasons i had to or not to sell. At the end i decided to sell, i felt that having more time at my hands, plus some cash to play with would be better than keeping the site.

I feel i got a very good price considering what amount the site was making, but the buyer looks like a man who knows what he’s doing and is confident of his way of work, so i don’t think he will have an extra hard time pulling off the what he put into this site in the long term.

The buyer (i won’t reveal his identity, unless he decides to do so in the comments) and i agreed on a one month deal in which i will be posting daily to ensure activity remains the same and readership isn’t lost. This way i both guarantee the blog isn’t loosing shape, and i earn some extra cash.

Realizing the opportunity

Many many things happened in December, i broke my daily earnings record, which now sits at $151, i made 4 figures with Adsense, sold a site, got to know more wonderful people from the industry, but by far the best thing that happened to me in December was my realization that this could really be turned into a job.

It happened when my ant (an English teacher) was telling me and my cousin that she just got raised, and that she will be earning 7500NIS ($1750) this month if she works for extra hours every week. I was happy for her, but deep inside a crucial thought was repeating itself - If i can repeat December’s success with Adsense at least, i can make more money than my ant!.

From that moment i decided to treat my blog(s) like a full-time job, you know - other teens are flipping burgers for a buck or two an hour, i can do something i enjoy and make more than a teacher’s wage. Today i spend more time researching, wording, designing and giving my posts the final touch, they’re my workers now. I’m a Problogger.

Just to make it clearer - My ant is about 40 years old, she’s been teaching English for at least 15 years, she does multiple continuing education programs a year, she works for extra hours, and damn she makes a nice pay check each month. ($1750 is considered quite good here)

Me, from the other hand - A 17 years old teenager, still going to high school, still doesn’t have a 3 years experience in blogging, but still making 4 figures a month. (Even if i don’t hit $2000 again in January, I’m pretty confident of hitting 4 figures at least)

Now you decide who you’d rather be :)

Hello Allen!

A BIG CONGRATULATIONS on your improved income and earnings for the year!

I’m sure you are feeling fantastic and it’s something I am working very hard for in the coming year myself.

I have a fun blog that I write on daily and then I have some business ventures I am working on and have BIG PLANS for in 2007 (starting yesterday!)

I am inspired by your posting here and wanted to say THANKS and BEST OF LUCK to you in this new year!

Michael ~

Hi Allen,

You’ve got a great online income arsenal at your disposal that works. It is a great inspiration and passion builder, knowing someone who makes so much online.

I’d love to do an interview with you on my site. The interview’s I’ve had keep getting better, and this one I’m sure would top the list!

Anyway, found you through Nomar’s comments. Keep up the great work. I just added your feed.

Now that looks like a huge increase in Adsense, congratulations on that. Hope this carries on into the next months as well.

Did you take a look at answers.vizu.com for another way of monetizing your blog independently from Adsense ?

Allen, congratulations on the progress with your blog and monetization. It sounds like you are building things quite nicely and doing very well for yourself.
Keep working hard and there is no reason you can not continue that success.

That is amazing. How do you make so much off of advertising? I really want to try and get a good revenue going off of advertising.

Awesome story and results Allen. Keep it up and you’ll be in even better shape in 12 months.

Remember, though, you’re the exception, not the rule. Most people who start blogs don’t have your drive to improve and make more money, or even care about money.

You’re doing it the right way though! Good luck.

@ J.R - Sure thing. I have one more interview waiting to be done, when i’m finished with that, I’ll be happy to answer your questions.

@ Martin: No, i have not. I’ve seen them only one site so far, and a pretty wildly popular entertainment site, do you know anything about their rates?

@ Bryan: Your question is so simple and has such a complicated, long answer. I will make sure to cover the basics soon.

@ Jim: Thanks, i’m writing for those who are looking to excel :)

Thanks for your kind comments again!
Allen

Hi Allen,

First let me say, congratulations on your revenue records. What did you do between November and December to see a 704% increase in AdSense revenue? I too am a young guy aspiring to make my mark online. Our revenue figures look quite similar. If you don’t mind me asking, what country is it that you live in?

Best of luck with a prosperous 2007.

Cheers
Stew

Great Job! Just found you through Nomar’s site as well, I like your content and your postings, I hope this turns out to be very successful for you. I will keep up on your site, you have a loyal reader already!

Impressive figures Allen, Wow,

Congratz for it :)
